Tucker and Adams that is. AND HUXIE SCOTT TOO!!!
Bassist, Ben Tucker and trombonist, Teddy Adams have established themselves solidly as Savannah’s faces of Jazz. Both are recognized throughout the jazz world for their musical adeptness and jazz sensibilities.
This duo will headline a group of national and regional musicians -which will feature Huxie Scott -to help the city of Savannah celebrate the 100th anniversary of Mercer’s birth.
A native of Savannah, Georgia, Huxsie Scott is regarded as one of the greatest jazz/blues artists ever to live and perform in the Savannah Coastal Area.
Saxophonist, Charles Dougherty is an accomplished musician, arranger, songwriter and producer who has recorded, toured and worked with a host of the world’s biggest & brightest talents including Stevie Wonder, Monty Alexander, Melba Moore, Jonathan Butler, Paul Simon, Jennifer Holliday, Freddie Jackson, Billy Ocean, The Mighty Sparrow, Byron Lee, Arrow, and many more. Charles Dougherty recently arranged and co-wrote original music along with Barry Eastmond for the award-winning documentary about the late presidential candidate Shirley Chisholm.
Born Johnny Herndon Mercer (November 18, 1909 – June 25, 1976) in Savannah, many of the songs he wrote and performed were among the most popular hits of his time. He wrote the lyrics to more than a thousand songs, including compositions for movies and Broadway shows. He was immensely popular and successful throughout his life--as a songwriter, a singer and a businessman (he co-founded Capitol Records).
From the mid-1930s through the mid-1950s, he received nineteen Academy Award nominations. So come celebrate with the Coastal Jazz Association of Savannah. After this night’s tribute, you will never forget to remember: Johnny Mercer.

"Music is your own experience, your own thoughts, your wisdom. If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn. They teach you there's a boundary line to music. But, man, there's no boundary line to art."
-- Charlie Parker
